Fur Fur and Fur
Fur.. everyone wants to buy Fur. Is it just luck of the draw that you use the expert salvage kit on something and get fur?

My question is, do you salvage it in fur squares? Or just plain fur and you need to craft it into fur squares?

Expert salvage on a Charr Hide would work, sometimes. It's not 100% effective. |

There's also a cheaper alternative to fur for rangers. In Yak's Bend, there's level 10 armor that uses hide squares and scales. The scales can be attained by salvaging the drops off Hydras south of Yak's Bend, and it only requires regular salvage kit, not expert.
On a side note tho, the drops (forgot the name) seem to be quite scarce, only got about 3 in over 30 kills and I sold them before I found out you can make quite decent armor with them. Oh well. Also, when fighting Hydras along with rock elemntals, try to take out the Hydras first, they can cast meteor which hits for 70+ damage. |

Has anyone here SEEN fur come from Ettin or Charr hides? I've tried each around 20 times, and NOTHING.

I've been searching and asking people in-game and everyone is pretty elitist with this information..thanks ALOT to those who shared info, that link was especially helpful. That's what the forum is all about!

The salvage success rate is very low. Be prepared to sink a lot of money into expert salvage kits if you want bragging rights to armors crafted using fur squares. They rightly deserve the rich valuation people are asking for them.
GW on line reports success on getting fur squares off Charr hides. I've succeeded in getting one fur square out of Losaru hides and another one off Maguuma hides. From this, I'm suspecting that monster hides of various sorts can be salvaged into fur squares using the expert kit, but at low probabilities of success. If you have money to burn, buy/gather animal hides and expert kits to try for fur squares. |

So far i managed to salvage 2 fur squares from 24 charr hides, with an expert salvage kit. Not a great % chance that you will actually be able to salvage a fur square, but its worth it if you need one badly

Does anyone else find it a little absurd that warriors require these rare materials for the lowest level armor? My elementalist has blazed through the armor sets without having to hunt for anything. Now I make a warrior and can't find any of these blasted things even with my higher level character. Anyone know why this is?

Well so far, I have gotten the best ratio of hides to fur squares off of centaur hides and as for charr hides i've been getting like 2 : 8
I must be lucky I'm guessing but i think all hides can be changed into fur squares. OH and 4 cahrr hides can be turned into a squar at colelctor in ascalon |

The above post has it. I can't believe this many people are unaware of the Collector in Ascalon who now offers 1 Fur Square for 4 Charr Hides...
